Structural analysis is arguably the most common application of the FE method. Stress, strain and deformation of a component or assembly can be investigated under a range of load conditions to ensure that expensive failures are avoided at the design stage.

As experienced development engineers, our project deliverables rarely stop at the analysis output alone.  We routinely work alongside clients to find design and development solutions that are realistic and offer genuine commercial benefits.  The effective integration of FEA with our other services also enables a complete engineering package.

Structural loads are typically one, or a combination, of the following:

  • External forces
  • Surface loads, e.g. pressure
  • Body forces (gravity, acceleration, temperature)

The structural response to more complex loads, for instance those arising from thermal analysis, can also be simulated using the coupled field approach.

The substantial non-linear capabilities of ANSYSŪ also enable more complex simulations to be undertaken, including:

  • Large deflection
  • Stress stiffening
  • Large strain

These features combined with extensive material property functions and state-of-the-art surface contact modelling, mean that complex assemblies can be cost-effectively analysed.  Life predictions using both fatigue and fracture mechanics methods are also readily obtained from the FEA output.
