On 31 May 2018, the Sussex Chamber of Commerce held their regular Manufacturers Forum event at UTC@harbourside in Newhaven and TriVista staff attended.
Mr Robin Simpson a Manufacturing Growth Manager (East Sussex, West Kent and Maidstone) provided advice regarding grants available for manufacturers in East Sussex. The second speaker, Mr Rupert Clubb, (the Director of Communities, Economy and Transport of East Sussex County Council) delivered an entertaining presentation about the Year of the Engineering. This is a current government campaign both celebrating engineering and forming part of its wider strategy to boost engineering especially with regards to diversity in the profession. An interesting discussion followed with many audience opinions on how the uptake of engineering could be raised in England.
The UTC@harbourside site was then toured. UTC college focuses on students motivated by science, maths and computing fields and helps them obtain real engineering skills and qualifications. The observed technical resources available to students at this college were impressive.
TriVista has been a member of The Sussex Chamber of Commerce (previously Sussex Enterprise) for 15 years. Over the last year, TriVista has attended various Chamber business events (e.g. business networking breakfasts) and have found the Manufacturing Forum events such as the above event and the event also held at Bowers and Wilkins Ltd in Worthing earlier this year to be good opportunities to meet with other like-minded engineering companies in the local Sussex area. It is also great to see the innovative engineering and high-quality product manufacturing occurring locally in Sussex.
