WPL Ltd is an internationally recognised leader in the design, manufacture and supply of standardised and bespoke environmental sewage and wastewater management process solutions.
TriVista was requested by WPL Ltd to perform Finite Element Analysis (FEA) on their next generation Miranda Rotating Biological Contactor (RBC) product. This highly efficient Miranda RBC is an advancement on previous RBC technology available consisting of interconnected disks and shafts gradually rotated by a motor but where the flow passes through the rotating discs rather than parallel. This increases the surface area of the media plus the contact time to raise the efficiency of the process so that the final treated effluent exceeds EU standards for safe release into the environment. This highly efficient Miranda RBC is an advancement on previous RBC technology available utilising solid shafts for reliability and therefore reduced life costs for utilities.
The WPL Miranda RBC was subjected to rigorous FEA analysis by TriVista evaluating its structural integrity using ANSYS and results have confirmed compliance with all water utilities specifications. The result of the analysis also predicted that the unit had a minimum life of 25 years. This was an interesting project to work on for WPL Ltd and we wish them every success with their product.
