In later 2017 Ansys announced a new product ‘Ansys Discovery Live’ offering the intriguing capability of instantaneous simulation coupled directly with geometry modification for an interactive ‘real time’ design evaluation that enabled swift product development. On hearing this news as experienced users, we were initially sceptical on the probable result accuracy of instant solutions based on years of running complex Non-linear FEA or transient CFD runs simulation runs and the process of obtaining precise results being a slow process
This software is currently available as a technology preview from Ansys for structural, thermal, modal or fluid dynamics and fits in with their ANSYS SpaceClaim and ANSYS AIM products. It is still probably very early days for this product as a practical tool but with its use of GPU’s (NVIDIA CUDA parallel computing platform) in providing faster simulation results it appears to offer significant future design potential especially for early concept design. TriVista presently understands this tool is intended for early product concept design rather than design validation. Various researchers have indicated this initial preview as having fast simulation times and being easy to use making it a good teaching tool. We will watch how this product develops in the future with interest and its potential also for experienced users.
